Facebook applications and the advantages they present

In today’s Web 2.0 culture we see all websites, especially the world-famous Facebook flooded with new applications, games, contests, quizzes, and all types of different entertainment.  However, these new tools aren’t just there for people to have fun and, like mostly everything in this world, they can have a specific objective for any type of business.

Facebook applications, depending on the type, can help you reach many different targets.  This site has users ranging from small children to grandparents, so you can hit pretty much any demographic you want if you create your applications right.  This new type of promotion can be very useful thanks to the fact that every time someone uses your application, the name of your company will pop up and they won’t get tired of it.

Brand positioning or top of mind is crucial nowadays, especially on the web, because you will always have to battle many many different businesses on the global E-market.  This makes it vital for the name of your brand to be the first, or at least one of the first ones that pops into the mind of a potential client.  Applications on sites like Facebook help you do this thanks to the repeated exposure to a brand’s name.

It is not often that a business can throw its name at a client’s face repeatedly during a short period of time and have them stand it.  If you play too many commercials on TV, people get tired, and the same thing happens with the radio.  However, if you entertain them with a game or any type of activity online, they’ll notice your brand name, but they will never get sick of it.  There might just be no better tool for a new campaign, for example.  It’s cheap, easy, and has guaranteed exposure.

  1. I agree that businesses must find different ways to get in front of their market; Facebook definitely offers a unique opportunity for some. Generally, I’ve seen apps work best for B2C businesses like bars, restaurants and others that can generate substantial interest in the general public. However, companies must carefully determine whether Facebook is the right fit for them before creating an app or even a page.
